FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Vancouver, BC, June 6, 2025 – Bell Media has officially greenlit a second season of The Last Captains, the critically acclaimed docuseries from Vancouver’s Big Time Decent Productions. Following its debut on Crave and USA Network in Canada, the series returns to chronicle the real lives of Canada’s last generation of independent mariners.
Shot entirely on location in Atlantic Canada, Season 2 will continue to follow the same unforgettable cast of captains introduced in Season 1—rugged, self-reliant seafarers who operate on instinct, tradition, and sheer determination. Their world is one of brutal weather, high risk, and vanishing margins—a maritime frontier where every day at sea is a battle for survival and dignity.
“We’re proud to bring The Last Captains back for another season,” said Executive Producer Matthew Shewchuk. “These are stories of grit, pride, and disappearing ways of life. The audience response to Season 1 made it clear there’s more to tell.”
Season 2 begins filming this summer and will once again deliver cinematic visuals, intimate access, and powerful storytelling that cuts through the waves and into the heart of Atlantic culture.
Executive producers are Matthew Shewchuk, Jeffrey Kinnon, René Brar, and Eve Zhou for Big Time Decent Productions.
